Watch hours math
Watch time per view = length × retention. A 10-minute video at 45% retention earns 4.5 minutes per view, so 4,000 hours needs about 53,000 views. Halve the length and you double the views required — long-form with decent retention is the fastest route.
Shorts don't count
Shorts views build the 1,000-subscriber half of YPP and have their own 10M/90-day route, but they contribute nothing to the 4,000 long-form hours. If YPP is the goal, ship long-form weekly and let Shorts feed it subscribers.
